HISTORY AND CULTURE
The consideration of the Costa del Sol as an international tourism resort arose in the beginning of the second half of the last century. It was a moment when the elite selected tourism was looking for something new, a period which coincides with wide strata of society incorporation in tourism activity.
Nobody knows with certainty the origin of the Costa del Sol’s name. There are several theories, none of them entirely credible. The unique documented fact is that this coastal andalusian area was published with the name famous all over the world in the Latin American Fair in Seville in 1929. According to some testimonies, the Costa del Sol’s name was invented by an Austrian consul, who lived in Cadiz and got used to going to Almeria. He preferred to travel through the shore and had to cross the provinces of Malaga and Granada. Due to the favorable climate area, all this coastal strip was called Costa del Sol. Some years later, the Costa del Sol was exclusively limited to the province of Malaga, caused by an extraordinary influx of tourists to the Malagas coast.
In any case, the real history of the Costa del Sol begins in Torremolinos with the presence of George Langworthy, due to its British origin the peasants called him an Englishman “El Inglés”. In the beginning of the 19th century he and his wife lived in the Santa Clara Castle, some years later they converted it into a residence for foreigners.
The Nerja Cave is a magnificent and unique attraction in its own right, but it has also given birth to an international music and dance festival, which is held annually, in July. In 2009 this International Festival of the Nerja Cave celebrated 50th anniversary of history, it was converted into an unavoidable cultural meeting, whose prestige was constantly augmented year after year. A great kind of famous all over the world music, dance, flamenco performers participate in it.
Beginning from the Maro´s cliffs, crossing through Nerja, with its Europe Balcony and the Cave, the Torrox charm, the Vélez-Málagas expanse, the coquetry of the Rincón de la Victoria, the capital greatness, the fame of Torremolinos, Benalmádena, Fuengirola, Mijas, Marbella, Estepona, Manilva and the tranquility of Casares. The Costa del Sol is an ideal place for the best vacations ever.

NIGHTLIFE
Málaga and other cities of the Costa del Sol are famous for its lively nightlife, which is much more active in summer, when the temperature rises, nights get shorter, the Costa del Sol is overcrowded.
The first option to enjoy a night is probably Torremolinos with its bars, nightclubs and beach night bars, especially situated in the Los Alamos area. There are also locals in the municipality center; the most famous are in the San Miguel Street.
Torremolinos never sleeps in summer, due to a great quantity of tourists, looking for fun every night. The Málaga city (the biggest municipality of the Costa del Sol) offers dozens of night activities too. The majority of the bars and nightclubs are situated in the old part of the city, between the Alamos Street, the Uncibay Square and the Granada Street.
The Málaga´s nightclubs have all type of music whatever you want: house, rock, pop, dance music. The capital of the Costa del Sol disposes of the typical snack bars, where to meet with your friends and to spend a good time. The Banús Port is the marina of Benalmádena is a nice place for the music lovers.
Fuengirola is situated in the southwest of Torremolinos and Benalmádena. It is worth visiting for the nightclubs lovers and it is also recommended for the international elderly tourists, due to the quietness of the streets and the central bars location.
The Banús Port is situated few kilometers to the West of Marbella. It is a paradise for wealthy famous people. The nightlife of Banús Port is much more expensive than in any other part of the Costa del Sol, but if you want to enjoy the most selected area, there is no doubt that you will take a delight in visiting such kind of place.

RESTAURANTS
Malaga's gastronomy is categorized as part of Andalusia's gastronomy and, therefore has been influenced by the cuisine of all the Mediterranean peoples such as the salted meats or fish of the Romans and Phoenicians, Arabic pastries made with honey, nuts and dried fruit and Castilian cooking techniques. Being a land located between the sea and the mountains, it offers a wide range of possibilities thanks to the diversity of its home-grown produce, such as fish, mainly because it is a coastal province, the typical meats produced in the mountainous regions and the vegetables grown in the Malaga lowlands. Therefore, "tapas" is an easy and very tasty way to enjoy a broad variety of food in Malaga, but in small quantities that delight the five senses. It has become another way of eating out. Tasting bits of each cuisine and mixing ingredients in small portions is one of the best options and Malaga is one of the best cities to experience this.
Among the best restaurants in Malaga where one can savour Malaga's traditional or creative cuisine are: Café de París, in the Velez Malaga Street; Adolfo, in the Paseo Marítimo Pablo Ruiz Picasso; Refectorium, in the Cervantes Avenue; Asako in the Carreterías Street or Alea in the Fajardo Street.
Also popular among Malaga residents are the Marisquería Santa Paula, in Los Guindos Avenue; Clandestino, in the Niño de Guevara Street, Maricuchi in the Paseo Maritimo El Pedregal, as well as the typical roadside restaurants of Los Montes de Malaga.
